Yesterday my youngest granddaughter and I spent the day at Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. We had a great time visiting all the animals except all avian. They were secluded in their houses because the Avian Flu has hit Iowa. The zoo was taking all precautions necessary to keep the avian population safe. It was disappointing. However cautions need to be taken to ensure the safety of all the birds. Including our companion parrots.
The day was beautiful. A little chilly in the morning. However the sun came out in early afternoon making it a very pleasant day. The residents of the zoo were enjoying the sunshine as much as we were. Blank Park Zoo had many metal sculptures throughout. They were unique as well as lifelike. This is a small zoo. It's easy to see the entire zoo in a day. We mingled with the goats and llamas which was extremely fun. Yes, the llama spit but fortunately we were spared. Others were not as lucky. I think deep down llama's get a kick out of watching people's reaction to their antics.
